April 24, 2006 - Last week FBT issued a News Release concerning the possible shut-down of limestone mining in Miami-Dade and the disastrous statewide transportation implications of such action. A Miami federal judge may halt the mining of the rock so vital to meeting Florida's ever-growing transportation construction needs. According to FDOT, the production loss would be 100% in Districts 6 and 4, 50-75% in Districts 1 and 7, and 25-50% in Districts 5 and 2. Hopefully, once the transportation and economic "implications" of a shut-down on mining are widely known, the federal court will make the right decision for Florida's future.
